Maybe it's because I'm living in a temple at the foothills of the Himalayas*, but the news is completely useless.
Headlines on the NYT today: mortgage stuff that no one can understand, an article on the fashion in an inane TV show for should-be suicidals, some non-news about the McCain campaign (i.e. that they're trying to win an election). One news-worthy item on increased alcohol abuse among veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq is relegated to the sidelines while some happening on Mercury gets the headline. Apparently a large crater was just discovered on a planet that does not directly concern any being on the land mass on which the New York Times is published.
At this point, Fox News, a 24-hour infomercial for America™ is more satisfying. At least the incessant and blatant stupidity and ignorance of Sean Hannity and Co. is a tangible (while bile-churning) reminder of just why we are where we are, which is a hell of a lot more than the NYT will dare to admit.
