Derrick Jensen:

On the nuances of experiencing life in the modern age: "We're so fucked.... but I feel so good. We're so fucked... but life is so amazing."

Even if you're not into believing/caring that the natural world is being destroyed and corporations have humanity in a chokehold, just check him out. Admittedly, most people associated with Utne Reader seem kind of lame, but I assure you DJ is a badass who thinks you are a warrior and that you should be acting like it. And he says fuck a lot.

I realize that "caring about things" is s0000 passe by now, since we no longer have a visibly dangerous criminal in the white house and eight years was a long time to be carrying around that amount of loathing. It's too hard to care, because actually, everything really is falling apart. Jensen defines a just world, or the one that we should all be living in, as one in which the rich no longer have the ability to steal from the poor and the powerful no longer have the ability to destroy the environment. Obviously, we're no closer to achieving that ideal now than we were a year ago. It's easy to fall into a habit of apathy and nihilism. But we're humans with a lot more than that running through our muscles and veins. Humans are stronger, more real than a mechanistic system. We just have to show it.

Check out his site (which looks like it was built in 1994) here, although you'll probably end up on a list that will get you frisked before your next flight.
